Highlights of the event include s’more making and cookie decorating, so students can satisfy their sweet tooth while enjoying holiday crafts.
The festivities are free for students and begin at 6 p.m. with activity tables for snow globe making, card and gift bag decorating and candle decorating. Students can also send holiday cheer to friends via candy-grams.
In addition, Pitt’s Handbell Choir will provide entertainment to students in the lower lounge by performing several holiday favorites.
Other entertainment includes a showing of two classic Christmas movies in the Assembly Room: “The Muppet Christmas Carol” and “Elf.”
Light Up Night is an annual event that the Pitt Program Council hosts to relieve finals stress and to increase the holiday spirit on campus.
The city of Pittsburgh hosted its own Light Up Night on Nov. 16 with similar festivities and thousands of holiday lights, topped off with a fireworks display.
Pitt’s version will not quite be as extravagant. Actually, there are hardly any lights being lit since most of them are already shining brightly. However, the activities and entertainment create most of the excitement.
If you’re feeling the end-of-semester stress on Tuesday, take a walk to the Union. Decorate a cookie and relax as you watch Will Ferrell skip about in an elf costume.
