Whether he’s high-fiving the crowd after a big touchdown or throwing his paws in the air for a 3-pointer, Roc the Panther can always be counted on to provide some great support for his fellow Panthers fans. Although fun and lovable for Pitt fans, Roc is a true Panther, intimidating opponents with his ferocious growl and terrifying claw-swipe. The Pirate Parrot, mascot of the Pittsburgh Pirates, finished just behind Roc in the voting, but only because fans couldn’t see the constant frowning underneath his mask.
Runner up: Pirate Parrot -Mike Gladysz
Best Pittsburgh Sports Team: Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers do it again. They are this year’s best Pittsburgh sports team despite a rough campaign last season. There’s nothing like walking around Oakland on a Sunday morning and seeing black and gold jerseys down every street you walk. Ben Roethlisberger has the team off to a good start this season, as the Steelers hope to bring a sixth Lombardi Trophy and Super Bowl title back to the Steelers’ faithful. Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins finished second.
Runner up: Penguins – Jay Huerbin
