Senior Sean Wildman and two of his teammates each earned their first goals last week.

Wildman, along with Justin Boehm and Connor Malone, faced hometown rival Duquesne on Wednesday and led the team to a 3-1 win.

Seeing the 25-yard goal go through the net was a thrilling moment for Wildman.

“I was very excited because I’ve been trying to get a goal for awhile,” he said, “and it was against a local team that I’ve always watched play.”

Going up against Duquesne and winning not only landed Wildman his first college goal, but he also says it’s his favorite soccer memory.

“I’m from around here, and I was recruited by Duquesne, as well,” he said. “A lot of my friends play there.

“This is my fifth year, and I never got to play against Duquesne in a regular- season game.”

Wildman was injured in 2004 and missed games in both his second and third years on the team. Still, in his first three years on the team, he started in 12 of his 30 career games at Pitt and registered five points with one assist.

In high school Wildman had 38 goals and 39 assists and led his team at Thomas Jefferson High School to two WPIAL Championships, one state runner-up title and a PIAA win. He was recruited by Pitt as well as many other schools.

“I came to Pitt because it was probably my best option and the school’s pretty prestigious,” he said. “I thought it would be fun to go here.”

On Pitt’s roster, Wildman is a midfielder, but he says he moves around a lot. His favorite position is central midfielder.

Wildman will graduate this year and try to get a job with a consulting firm. His major is information systems and he says his mom, who works with computers, inspired his interest in them at a young age.

“I always have been interested in computers so figured it was the best major for me,” he said.

“I want to work probably in Pittsburgh but it doesn’t really matter to me.”

Also after graduation, he’ll probably find a way to stay close to the field.

“I don’t think I’ll play seriously, but I think I’ll play in old-man leagues,” he laughed.

“I started [playing soccer] real young and I’ve always played soccer. I can’t remember not playing it,” he said.
