When Antoon Abraham opened up Antoon’s Pizza in 1997, his objective was to make a pizza that would cost under five dollars. Ten years later, Pitt Students can still get a large, 16-inch pizza for $4.59. Voted best meal under $5 by The Pitt News, Antoon’s makes for a great late night pizza fix that will fit quite nicely with a college budget. As well as pizza, Antoon’s offers calzones, wedgies, salads and appetizers, none of which exceed a $7 price range. Open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. and delivering until 11 p.m., the only downside to Antoon’s is that they’re cash only and don’t accept Panther Funds.

Pizza Bellagio 315 North Craig St. 412-688-8448 $ Panther Funds? No

Pizza Bellagio is known for its pastas and wide range of specialty pizzas, but also serves calzones, desserts, gyros, hoagies, traditional pizzas, salads, sandwiches and wings. Pizza Bellagio is moderately priced, though some of the pastas and entrees can be a little on the expensive side. The restaurant also has a party special that includes four large pizzas for $31.99. It is also open late and delivers until 12:30 a.m. seven days a week.

Fox’s Pizza Den 6526 Blvd. of the Allies 412-621-3090 $ Panther Funds? Yes.

When in doubt, you can always stick to the franchise pizza at Fox’s Pizza Den. They offer salads, hoagies, wedgies, appetizers and wings as well as pizza. If you’ve got money to burn, Fox’s has the typical specialty pizzas like Hawaiian and barbeque chicken as well as some more unique specialties like perogie pizza and double bacon cheeseburger pizza, with prices ranging from $6.99 for a small specialty pizza to $23.49 for large thick-crusted “Big Daddy.”

Larry ‘ Carol’s 410 Semple St. 412-687-1189 $ Panther Funds? Yes

Larry ‘ Carol’s is another pizza shop designed to cater to college budgets and schedules. Open until 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursdays and until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Larry ‘ Carol’s delivers delicious pizza, hoagies, wedgies, calzones and salads late into the night. In addition to all their subs priced under $6 and their pizzas under $10, they run nightly price specials on pizzas, calzones and hoagies Monday through Friday.

Little Nipper’s Pizza II 216 N. Craig St. 412-683-3777 $ Panther Funds? No

Known for their delicious pasta and friendly service, Little Nipper’s has become a popular pizza shop amongst Pitt Students. They have a huge menu that includes pizza, wings, wedgies, pasta, appetizers, salads, hoagies, gyros and calzones. Reasonably priced and open until 2 a.m. on the weekends, Little Nipper’s pizza is great for a late night snack after parties.

Milano’s Pizzeria 3606 Fifth Avenue 412-681-2858 $ Panther Funds? Yes

Walking into Milano’s Pizzeria is basically like walking into the epitome of an Italian-American Pizza shop, with its slightly outdated decor and delicious aroma of pizza hanging in the air. Located just down the street from the Towers, the two best things about Milano’s Pizzeria for Pitt students are that they take Panther Funds and they serve pizza by the slice. So if you’re in the mood for a quick slice of pizza between classes, Milano’s Pizzeria is the place to go.

Papa John’s Pizza 4815 Center Ave 412-682-7272 $ Panther Funds? Yes

As a national pizza chain Papa John’s offers students from out of town a bit of familiarity. They have unique specialty pizzas such as spinach alfredo, roma meats and six cheese. In addition, this chain offers special dessert pizzas with fruit and cinnamon. With a reasonable menu that prices everything under $20, this popular pizza shop is both delicious and affordable.

Pesaro’s Pizza 4635 Center Ave. 412-621-7744 $ Panther Funds? No

Pesaro’s pizza brings old world taste to Oakland with its large menu that offers a wide variety of Italian foods. In addition to pizza, salads and hoagies, Pesaro’s offers calzones, wedgies, stromboli and desserts. The prices are reasonable and Pesaro’s posts coupons on its website along with its full menu. For classic pizzas and Italian food, look to Pesaro’s Pizza.

Pizza Prima 190 N Craig St. 412-687-6464 $ Panther Funds? No

Much like most other pizza shops in Oakland, Pizza Prima offers more than just pizza. Hoagies, salads, appetizers, calzones and gyros are available for reasonable prices. Pizza is sold by the slice for $1.50 and free delivery with a $7 minimum order and carry-out are available, which is probably the best way to go since there isn’t much seating inside the shop.

Sorrento’s Pizza Roma 233 Atwood St. 412-621-9129 $ Panther Funds? Yes

Open until 3 a.m. on the weekends and featuring pizzas for around $5, Sorrento’s Pizza Roma duels with Antoon’s for the top after-party destination in Oakland. As well as pizza, Pizza Roma serves salads, hoagies, dinners, appetizers and homemade flat breads made with pesto sauce. They have $7 pasta entrees like stuffed shells, ravioli, chicken parmagiana, and lasagna. With friendly service, great prices, free delivery and delicious pizza, Pizza Roma is one of Oakland’s best pizza shops.

Say Cheese! Pizza Co. 3507 Cable Place 412-687-0606 $ Panther Funds? Yes

Open until 1 a.m. on the weekends, Say Cheese! is giving Pitt students something to smile about. With pizza, hot subs, appetizers, salads, wedgies and sandwiches Say Cheese! Pizza Co. offers a wide selection of great Italian food at decent prices. Say Cheese!’s whole hoagies are priced under $10 and their large pizza is $12.24 plain. One popular pizza that has been recently added to the menu is their fajita pizza.

Sciulli’s Pizza 3404 5th Ave. 412-687-9287 $ Panther Funds? No

For friendly service and delicious food look no further than Sciulli’s. Located just down the street from Carlow University, Sciulli’s offers entrees, hoagies, appetizers, salads and pizzas. The prices are reasonable and they sell pizza by the slice, which is great for lunch. They specialize in Sicilian style pizza, so if you like super thick pizza at a mere $1.25 per slice, you’ll love Sciulli’s.

Vocelli’s 4740 Baum Blvd. 412-687-9555 $$ Panther Funds? Yes

Vocelli’s is a popular pizza chain on the east coast that is known for its quality and taste. Vocelli’s uses a signature sauce and 100% mozzarella cheese on it’s pizza and offers great combo deals that are ideal for feeding large groups of people and a college special that includes an extra large one topping pizza for $7.99. As well as their famous pizza, Vocelli’s has stromboli, panini, subs, salads and wings that are all reasonably priced and affordable for college students.
