McCoy is attempting to become the first Pitt freshman since Curvin Richards to rush for 1,000 yards, and only the third player to do to reach that mark in team history.

McCoy also added a rushing touchdown to bring his season total to 10. The record for a Pitt freshman is 12 by Tony Dorsett.

Louisville reign

With the loss on Saturday, Pitt has now lost its last seven contests to the Cardinals. The Panthers haven’t beat Louisville since 1983, when they won 55-10 at Pitt Stadium.

There’s no place like home

Pitt has lost all of its road games this season. Its next opportunity for road redemption will come November 17th when the team travels to Piscataway, N.J., to take on Rutgers.

Kicking with consistency

Conor Lee has now converted 68 straight extra points and has converted 23 of his 26 field goals on the season. Lee is on the Lou Groza Award watch list for the nation’s best kicker.

Arms race

Tight end Darrell Strong had the Panthers’ only passing touchdown Saturday. Strong, a high school quarterback, has thrown two touchdowns in his career. He threw his first last season against the Citadel.

Heisman watch

Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm completed 21 of his 30 passing attempts for 236 yards and two touchdowns. The senior had one pass intercepted once by Pitt cornerback Aaron Berry.

Brohm is expected to be one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Injuries

– Adam Gunn was shaken up on a Louisville kick-off in the fourth quarter. Although he did not return, he did leave the field under his own power.

– McCoy left the field in the fourth quarter with limping on a hurting ankle. But the freshman returned to action later in the game, and appeared fine after the game.
