The Pitt News should cover the one aspect of homecoming that the majority of Pitt’s thousands of students actually notice: the hundreds of colored homecoming fliers ruining the public spaces in Oakland. These fliers are thoroughly taped to every bench, light post, telephone booth and any other surface around campus that will hold them. Not only are they an eyesore, but they are littering up the place.

I don’t know how the Breast Cancer Association decided to support such a frivolous event, but I’m sure they don’t support littering and the de-beautification of the campus. Do we really need five or more fliers for “Mama Mia” taped in a row on the library entrance handrail? Some people need to use that without risking a painful paper cut.

Even worse is when you witness students slipping down the stairs on loose adverts (and we can’t forget a hefty coating of nightclub fliers). I’ll never understand how these people get away with doing this to our campus, especially when the names of those responsible are plastered all over. Make a webpage, set up a booth, but please stop the litter.
