Butler, a 21-year-old ex-Pitt student, is a member of the Pittsburgh Organizing Group. The group began what it calls a “month long fast against war and military recruitment” at 6 p.m. Tuesday. He plans to only drink water and take vitamin supplements for an entire month.
“I think it’s really important that we focus not only on the war, but on organizations that take young people out of the community and makes them kill and die,” he said as he sipped water from an Aquafina bottle.
The protestors are stationed outside of the Armed Forces Career Center on Forbes Ave. The permit they received from the city lasts until 6 p.m. today, but they plan on staying for the entire month of September.
POG plans to hold a press conference when the permit is up in anticipation of resistance from the city.
