I’ve never felt the need to write to The Pitt News before. In fact, I’m the type of guy… I’ve never felt the need to write to The Pitt News before. In fact, I’m the type of guy who’s complaining about how bad the paper is, even though I read it almost every day.
However, I applaud your decision to print “the f— word,” as I affectionately refer to it, in Tuesday’s editorial “Rocky Mountain Collegian drops F-bomb for free speech.”
Freedom of speech is an incredibly important right that isn’t appreciated by many. Too many people want to quash speech that they don’t agree with, but the quote “I may disagree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the end your right to say it,” rings true.
The article mentioned that the only way to start actual debate is to do something drastic, and I’m glad that you chose to do so. I know that more people were talking about this than if it was just another boring editorial about how our rights are being eroded.
Thank you for not jumping on the bandwagon of those who are quick to stop someone from saying something simply because of the way that he says it.
