Kirby Freeman beat out Kyle Wright for the Miami Hurricanes quarterback job, according to ESPN.com, and will start Miami’s season opener Saturday against Marshall.
Freeman took over late last season after Wright broke his right thumb and led the Hurricanes to a 2-2 record, including a win over Nevada in the MPC Computers Bowl, of which he was named the MVP.
Wright, considered by many the nation’s top recruit when he signed with Miami, began each of the last two seasons as a starter.
