The Port… For the time being, Pitt will keep its ticket to ride on city transit.
The Port Authority announced last Friday a two-month extension of its agreement with the University to provide service to all students, faculty and staff with a University ID.
Pitt will pay $323,942 per month for service until Sept. 30 — 15 percent more than it paid the Port Authority under a contract that expired today.
Port Authority Spokeswoman Carmen Bray said that negotiations will continue until the next Port Authority Board of Directors meeting, scheduled for Sept. 28.
By then, hopefully, a new agreement will be ready for the Board’s approval, Bray said.
Pitt spokesman John Fedele said the University will not comment on the negotiations as they continue.
Neither Bray nor Fedele would confirm whether or not any new agreement would incorporate a 15 percent increase in Pitt’s monthly payments to the Port Authority.
However, Fedele did say that Pitt student fees for transportation would not be increased for this school year.
