Music fans, take notice. This weekend provides you with two amazing opportunities to check out some well-known and up-and-coming artists. First, on Friday and Saturday, David Dye, host of World Cafe, takes his nationally acclaimed radio show to the Andy Warhol Museum where he’ll be taping a few of his shows, complete with interviews from a number of different artists.

World Cafe is a radio show that gives listeners the opportunity to hear the sounds of legendary musicians and meet new artists. Dye has served as the show’s host since its start in 1991, and today World Cafe is syndicated on more than 185 public radio stations across the country. In the past, Dye has introduced listeners to the artists Damien Rice, My Morning Jacket and Coldplay, among others.

On the lineup for Friday June 22 is singer-songwriter and University of Pittsburgh graduate Jon Check at 6 p.m. and singer-songwriter Kim Richey at 8 p.m.

The next day, Dye will chat with alternative rockers Ike Reilly Assassination, the jam band Moe and another singer-songwriter, Sinead O’Connor, at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. The shows will broadcast to more than 500,000 people in August.

While tickets for tapings with Moe and O’Connor have already sold out, don’t feel discouraged. You’ll still have a chance to see these artists Saturday at the 10th Annual WYEP Summer Music Festival. At this outdoor concert, all of the World Cafe guests will be performing, and the best part is that it’s completely free. The concert starts when Check kicks things off at approximately 4 p.m. Ike Reilly Assassination, Richey, O’Connor and Moe will follow with the entire show ending at about 10:15 p.m. Event-goers are encouraged to bring chairs, a blanket and picnic food, though food vendors will also be present.

The festival will be held at Allegheny Landing, a riverside park on Isabelle and Sixth Street along the river. The park is across the street from the Andy Warhol Museum.

To order tickets for the available World Cafe tapings, call (412) 381-9131 between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week. Only credit or debit cards are accepted.
