Tuesday morning, the weather was bad enough for hundreds of schools in the Pittsburgh area to close their doors, however the University of Pittsburgh decided to stay open. It appears that the decision is in the hands of people who are incapable of making a snappy decision with the safety of the students and professors in mind.
For those of us who do not live in Oakland, getting to class was an adventure. It seems that all of the commuter students were forgotten about, as buses were late or cancelled and most roads covered in a thin sheet of snow and ice. I can’t speak for any professors, though I’m sure most do not live in Oakland and faced an equally perilous journey.
Moreover, the roads yesterday appeared to be worse than they were Tuesday, at least in my neck of the woods. Incompetence should not be accepted, especially in our university. Even more importantly, we should not accept incompetence from those who decide the safety of University of Pittsburgh students and faculty.
