Every party I have been to during the fall semester has been busted. Parties I have planned have been called off because of either Pitt Police presence or some form of contact from them telling me I am breaking the liquor law because I’m serving more than 20 people without a license. If I actually have the party, the cops still show up, citing a noise violation and wanting to come inside to check it out when there aren’t more than 15 people present! Within the past year I have known three people who have been robbed at gun point while walking around Oakland – one instance in broad daylight! Over all, if pressed, I could cite over 15 cases of people I know who have been robbed at gun point while in Oakland, and the number is rising. This is completely unacceptable. Student safety should be the main concern of the Pitt Police, but they seem to be focusing their attention on underage drinking instead. Sure, that is a problem, but is it more of a problem than armed robberies? I think it is time for The Pitt News to address this lack of regard by the Pitt police in regard to student safety.
