Pat Narduzzi set to become Pitt’s next head football coach

Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi is set to be introduced as Pitt’s next head football coach, according to multiple reports.

While the move has not yet been made official, several sources say the deal is close to being finalized.

Pitt also announced Wednesday that it will hold a press conference on Friday at 3:30 to address its head football coaching vacancy.

EJ Borghetti, executive associate athletic director for media relations, could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.

Narduzzi has worked as defensive coordinator since 2007 at Michigan State, where he won the Broyles Award in 2013, recognizing him as the top assistant coach in the country. Michigan State led the Big Ten in total defense in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Before transferring to Rhode Island, Narduzzi played football at Youngstown State, which Pitt plays against in its season opener on Sept. 5.

Former Pitt head coach Paul Chryst left the team on Dec. 17 to accept a vacant head coaching position at the University of Wisconsin, his alma mater.

Reports also say that an official announcement is not expected until after Christmas, but that it may come as early as Friday.
