Only two of those shots found the back of the net, as the Panthers lost both games to a 2-1 score.

The two losses drop Pitt to 7-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the Big East.

The majority of those 21 shots were taken Sunday against South Florida, whose goalkeeper made 10 saves to lead the Bulls to an overtime victory. Pitt only managed to put two shots on goal in the loss to Marquette Friday.

Pitt returns home as it hosts Georgetown on Friday, Oct. 13, at Founders Field at 7 p.m. The game against Georgetown will be part of Pitt soccer’s Kick Out Cancer event at Founders Field to support and raise awareness for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Pitt 1, Marquette 2

The Panthers dug themselves into an insurmountable hole when they traveled to Valley Fields in Milwaukee.

The Golden Eagles scored in the game’s sixth minute and then found the net again in the 18th minute to take a 2-0 lead.

Pitt had very few chances to get back in the game, only taking two first-half shots, none of which were on net.

The Panthers never quit while trying to chip away at the two-goal deficit and finally found the back of the Marquette net in the 70th minute.

Freshman Megan Watson beat goalkeeper Laura Boyer on an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 2-1 with still time remaining for a second half comeback.

Pitt could only manage one other shot on goal in the half and Watson’s lone tally, her second collegiate career goal, would be the Panthers’ only score as they fell 2-1 to the Golden Eagles.

Pitt 1, South Florida 2

The Panthers had less than 36 hours before they had to be back on the field when they traveled from Wisconsin to Tampa, Fla., to take on the Bulls of South Florida Sunday.

Pitt made up for its lack of shots against Marquette by peppering USF goalkeeper Casey Garrett.

Pitt got on the board first as Meta Haley gathered a pass from Corina Sebesta and rifled a left-footed kick into the top left corner of the goal just past Garrett’s reach.
