The fall season of the Drue Heinz Lecture Series kicks off today with a lecture featuring political satirist Christopher Buckley.

Buckley has published a number of satirical novels, including “Thank You For Smoking,” which was recently recast into a movie. He has also written essays for The New Yorker.

Buckley’s humorous work is often intertwined with true-to-life politics. His experience as a speechwriter for Vice President George H.W. Bush culminated in a political satire about the White House, titled “The White House Mess.”

And in the decade of the popular TV show “The X-Files,” Buckley published “Little Green Men,” a piece about the U.S. government’s investigation of UFOs.

The Carnegie Music Hall, located in the Carnegie Museum in Oakland, provides a charming and acoustically sound setting for the lecture.

Upcoming authors in the fall and spring series include Susan Orlean, Jhumpa Lahiri, Alice Hoffman, Michael Pollan and David Sedaris. This is the 16th season for Pittsburgh Arts ‘ Lectures, which presents the Drue Heinz Lectures and the American Shorts Reading Series.
