After the departure of two assistant coaches from his staff, Pitt men’s basketball coach… After the departure of two assistant coaches from his staff, Pitt men’s basketball coach Jamie Dixon had sought long and hard for the right candidates to fulfill those vacancies.

Earlier this summer, Dixon found the last person for his staff when he named David Cox his Director of Operations.

Cox joins previously-named assistants Pat Sandle, Mike Rice and Orlando Antigua as members of Dixon’s staff for the upcoming 2006-07 season.

Cox, a former point guard at William ‘ Mary, served as the Assistant Principal at his alma mater, St. John’s Preparatory High School in Washington, D.C., where he oversaw the school’s athletic department, supervision of all extracurricular activities and served as school disciplinarian.

“David will be a tremendous role model for our student-athletes,” Dixon said in a statement. “He has an outstanding administrative and basketball background and is an individual who will benefit our program in many facets.”

As Director of Operations at Pitt, Cox will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the team, serve as a liaison to athletic department officials and coordinate the student-athletes’ practice, game-day and daily schedules.

Prior to his work at St. John’s Preparatory High School, Cox coached at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C. from 1996-99.

Previously, Cox was an assistant coach with the Washington, D.C. Assault AAU program. While there, he helped lead the team to the 2004 Under-16 national championship.

As a player, Cox finished his career at William ‘ Mary near a few all-time school leaders in categories including assists, 3-point field goal percentage and 3-point field goals made.

“He is a former NCAA Division I player who is familiar with the kind of student-athletes that we have,” Dixon said, “and will continue to have representing the University of Pittsburgh.”
