The date given for the official dates for degrees awarded apply to all schools and regional campuses of the University. Dates in bold apply to all undergraduate and graduate programs on all campuses, those not bolded only to the Pittsburgh Campus. Specific dates affecting the first professional programs in the Schools of Dental Medicine, Law, and Medicine, as well as the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, may be obtained from the appropriate dean’s office.

4 Tuesday Independence Day (University closed)

5 Wednesday FALL TERM DEADLINE for continuing students to register without a penalty fee

August

15-18, incl. Tuesday-Friday International Student Orientation

23 Wednesday Residence Halls Open

24 Thursday New Faculty Orientation

23-27 Wednesday-Sunday New Student Orientation

25 Friday New TA Orientation

TBA Freshman Convocation

28 Monday FALL TERM REGISTRATION PERIOD ENDS for all students

28 Monday FALL TERM CLASSES BEGIN

26 Thursday SPRING TERM REGISTRATION AND ADD/DROP CAN

27 Friday FALL TERM DEADLINE for students to submit Monitored Withdrawal forms to dean’s office

22-26 incl. Wednesday-Sunday Thanksgiving Recess for students (no classes), all schools

23-24, incl. Thursday-Friday Thanksgiving Recess for faculty and staff (University closed)

27 Monday Classes resume (all schools)

December

8 Friday FALL TERM: Last day for undergraduate day classes

8 Friday SPRING TERM DEADLINE for continuing students to register without a penalty fee

9 Saturday Reading Day

9-16, incl. Saturday-Saturday College of General Studies classes, all graduate classes, and evening classes will continue to meet during this period; final examinations should be held during the last scheduled class meeting

11-16, incl. Monday-Saturday Final Examination Period for undergraduate day classes

16 Saturday FALL TERM ENDS. Official date for degrees awarded in FALL TERM

17 Sunday Residence halls close

17-Jan.2, incl. Sunday-Tuesday Winter Recess for students (no classes), all schools

20 Wednesday FALL TERM Grades must be “approved” by instructors by 5:00 p.m. before final posting can begin.

24-Jan.1, incl. Sunday-Monday Winter Recess for faculty and staff; designated University offices, including major responsibility centers and research projects, will be staffed as necessary during this period*

*Employees covered by collective bargaining agreements will be governed by the terms of those agreements.
