Grades posted after minor delay

Jinx Walton, the director of Computing Services and Systems Development, said that the computer problem was unfortunate, but won’t happen again.

Walton said that some students were able to check their grades before the computer problem occurred. She added that the way some of the students checked their grades may have exacerbated the problem with the computer system.

The system is busiest during the end of the semester when students get their grades.

Walton said that many students used the system early to check and see if their grades were posted yet. This, combined with the unusually* high volume of students on the system caused it to slow down.

According to Walton, some students were able to get their grades before CSSD took them off to fix the system.

The grades were supposed to be available by 1 p.m. on Dec. 22.

As a result of the problem most students were not able to check them until 4 p.m.

Walton said that, in general, the “system has been almost flawless.”

She said that problems such as this are expected because the system is still in its first-year cycle.

Walton said that this first-year cycle should end in April.

“We apologize and this won’t happen again,” she said.
