Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. with a national broadcast on ESPN.
The Coaches – The Panthers are led by third-year head coach Jamie Dixon, who is currently 63-14 in his tenure with the Panthers. DePaul’s first-year head coach is Jerry Wainwright, who came to the Blue Demons with 11 years of head coaching experience.
Last Meeting – Pitt and DePaul haven’t met on the basketball court in almost 70 years, but it was the Blue Demons who prevailed, 41-37, back in the 1936-1937 season.
Shades of Gray – Much of the Panthers’ early season success can be credited to their biggest player. At 7 feet tall, center Aaron Gray is averaging a double-double with 12.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest. He also leads the Big East Conference in rebounds and double-doubles.
Welcome Back – After almost leaving for the NBA draft last summer, senior guard Carl Krauser has made his presence felt early on this season. Krauser leads the team in scoring – averaging 17.6 points per contest – and has scored in double figures in nine straight games.
Not So Friendly – The Panthers have established a reputation around the country for being nearly unbeatable inside the Petersen Events Center. Heading into tonight’s game, the Panthers are 58-5 overall and 21-4 in Big East Regular season play when playing at home.
Wiping Glass – The Panthers are currently ranked in the top five in the country in rebound margin per game, averaging over eight rebounds more than their opponents each contest.
Halfway There – The Panthers are halfway to matching the all-time consecutive win streak in school history. Pitt has started the season with 12 straight wins and is chasing the 1973-1974 squad, who won 22 in a row between December and February.
