An ice rink, that is, adorned the snowless grass as part of the second annual Winter Wonderland event, hosted by the Pitt Program Council.

Students from all over campus flocked to the Union to partake in the frosty festivities.

“It’s really cool because it’s so convenient,” sophomore Rachel Hill said. “I’ve been skating twice already.”

The event not only featured free ice-skating, but also provided students with hot chocolate, s’mores and musical entertainment by student performers.

“It’s really nice for the kids,” said Ed Hile, who was enjoying the event with his daughter, freshman Abby Hile. “We were so surprised when we pulled up. It was amazing they could cart this whole big ice rink in. It’s nice to keep the kids busy in the doldrums of winter.”

Junior Jaqueline Griffin, stationed inside the heated tent to check the Pitt IDs of incoming students, commented on the high turnout of the event.

“There’ve been a lot of people, especially at night,” she said. “It starts to get busy around 7.”

Winter Wonderland took place Friday and Saturday from noon until 11 p.m., and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m.
