One-night stand turns into strong relationship

You never know who could be on the other end of a one-night stand. For some, the person is a distant memory, forever banished to the site of a tropical vacation with no potential for a substantive relationship.

For others, like Jennifer and Sean, one night freshman year led to them spending the next two years with each other. They’re still going strong, despite some of the challenges they face, such as the fact that Jennifer is white and Sean is black.

They had seen each other at campus eateries, at the Pete, on shuttles – always in passing but never long enough to have a conversation. The attraction was undeniable even before they met. Luckily, the unnoticed glances at each other ended at the official meeting place for most hook-ups with clothes on – the dance floor.

“She was definitely grinding on me,” Sean remembers of their first night. Even after the last song they were still in motion, and it wouldn’t be the last time they broke a sweat together that evening. They later found out that they lived on the same floor in the same dorm, and what they had anticipated finally was fulfilled in Sean’s room.

“I didn’t expect us to go as far as we did,” Jennifer says of their first night. When summer came, and they found themselves in Pittsburgh, it seemed that without college parties and school deadlines, they had some time to really get to know each other on several fronts.

From a sexual standpoint, it was the most intense summer they had ever experienced. People say that springtime paves the way for great sex because it showcases pairs of legs that were covered up to ward off snowflakes. But springtime is merely an appetizer for summertime’s feast, and during the summer heat, the passion inside Sean and Jennifer’s relationship fully expressed itself.

“We had sex all the time; several times in a row, trying so many different positions – it was incredible.” Jennifer continued. “At first we were using condoms and then we stopped. It was so intimate.”

They also had a few firsts. Sean was the first man to make Jennifer come. Jennifer was the first woman to whom Sean gave oral sex. As they spent more and more time together, they began to face adversity, and that took its toll on their relationship. Both of their families disapproved of the other’s ethnic background. To make things worse, sometimes when together in public, they would get questioning stares.

Although Sean had never been in a relationship with a white woman, Jennifer had dated black men before. Also, neither considered stereotypes about race when they got together. It was clear that being in an interracial relationship had made them a strong couple.

They persevered as friends and lovers, got over their fears of commitment, learned to trust each other, and, since they became exclusive this past June, they are still withstanding pressure from their families.

Outside of race, there are still some issues that need to be ironed out in their sex lives. While they both express overall satisfaction with their relationship, Jennifer expresses discontent with some of its aspects.

“When he comes the first time, he’s ready for round two right after that and the second time around-it’s difficult,” she said. “It’s big. And the stopping and starting when we change positions,” she shakes her head and continues, “It’s hard to do because it doesn’t take me long to orgasm from penetration.” Sean mentioned several times that he would like to have sex more often. However, since they both play sports it seems that they often don’t have a lot of time, but still they make time to pleasure each other.

Luckily they have enough in common to keep them grounded. They are both opposed to practicing anything anal and are satisfied with traditional sex minus the kinks, toys and fetishes. They have also reached a level of comfort that they have never experienced with any other individual.

As they sit next to each other watching a football game, the connection they have seems so natural. In the beginning, Jennifer felt that oral sex was disgusting. She was also uncomfortable with her body and now that has all changed. “I don’t know why it is so easy with him, but it is.”
