Make Heinz Field family-friendly

On behalf of the University of Pittsburgh Football… Make Heinz Field family-friendly

On behalf of the University of Pittsburgh Football Team and Athletic Department, we would like your support in addressing a serious issue. During our first three games this season, our student section has used foul language when cheering during our games. We ask that you help keep Heinz Field a family-friendly stadium. There are often many young fans in attendance with their parents; these children are impressionable. We do not in any way want to hinder our spirited fans from enjoying the game; however, we would also like the families in attendance to enjoy the game without worrying about their children being exposed to inappropriate language.

When attending our games, even though you do sit in the student section, please be sensitive to the other fans in attendance and use discretion when cheering. We want you to maintain your energy and excitement but please refrain from using foul language.

We would like to extend a sincere thank-you to the student body for your support and loyalty. By working together we can uphold the first-class reputation of Pittsburgh Panthers Athletics and our great University.

Thank you,

Vince Crochunis

Better coverage of divestment campaign

I attended the speech given by Dennis Brutus, who is a professor emeritus at Pitt and a legend in the struggle against the South African apartheid last Thursday. He spoke of the parallels between the divestment campaigns directed at South Africa during the 1980s on many college campuses and the divestment from the Israeli occupation campaigns currently occurring around the country. The event marked the launch of such a campaign at Pitt. I must express my dismay over the absence of any coverage of this significant event in The Pitt News. I hope The Pitt News will commit to improving its standards in the future.

Sincerely, Steven Fake Senior Political Science/English Writing
