As a former and future resident of the great state of Alabama, I was not only offended, but I can say that the writer of this article failed to do his or her homework. Desegregation and interracial marriage were taken care of on the national level by the U.S. Supreme Court in Brown v. Board of Education and Loving v. Virginia, respectively. There is no need to waste taxpayer’s money to amend the state constitution and add pages to a document that already stands 6 feet high if you were to place it on the floor.
It is common knowledge that such practices are no longer controlled by the state, and it is a waste of time to discuss these in a state constitution.
And here is some food for thought: There are 29 chapters of recognized hate organizations in Pennsylvania and 24 in Alabama. Believe me, Pennsylvania is just as racist, if not more so, than Alabamans, and I say that based on experience in both states. Yes, it’s sad that the constitution in Alabama has not progressed as fast as the minds of the people that live there, but it’s even worse that the minds of Pennsylvanians have not been able to progress as fast as the constitution in this state.
