Rock your socks off with Habitat and great bands

Five bands for $5. That’s a pretty sweet deal for any occasion, even better when it’s for… Five bands for $5. That’s a pretty sweet deal for any occasion, even better when it’s for charity.

Habitat for Humanity’s Panther Chapter is holding a benefit concert tonight at Bellefield Hall. All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity in Tanzania. Habitat’s goal is to raise $2,800 to build a home in Tanzania. They are looking to have the benefit concert raise the majority of the desired amount.

The five bands bring a nice mix of styles and sounds. Local band Remedy Mine brings a nice rock sound from an up-and-coming group of aspiring rock stars. Remedy Mine is a quintessential power trio with a drum-heavy and driving rhythm section and catchy hooks.

Local band on the rise Good Brother Earl is also on the bill. With the release of its self-titled, full-length album last spring, GBE struck a chord with critics and fans alike. With a rock sound that has the tendency to jam out a bit, GBE grabs listeners and puts their toes in a tapping motion. Following the success of local heroes The Clarks, GBE is looking to blaze a trail into national notoriety.

Heading the show is national touring band Zox from Rhode Island. The four piece rocks out, they jam, and they do it all with energy that pours from the stage. They have a sound that mixes a bit of Sublime with a touch of Beethoven. Spencer Swain plays a violent violin that screams through the sometimes-lengthy jams that the band often breaks into.

Also on the bill is Soulpatch — a jam-based rock band that has a sound similar to Dispatch and Dave Matthews Band — and ily Amy, a three-piece band that fuses rock and folk, and also utilizes the violin.

The show is set to kick off at 7 p.m. and is sure to rock your socks off for a bargain.
