The Zippo Hot Tour’s goal is to present the biggest and best of local music in eight different cities across the country, and this year, they are bringing the best of the best out in Pittsburgh. Fans voted in the beginning of August on which bands from the Pittsburgh area would be representing them this fall. Now, the results are in, and Fullproof is one of the top five finalists.

Fullproof is playing on not one, but three out of the four dates on the Zippo Hot Tour in the top music venues around the city. You can catch them tomorrow night at Mr. Small’s Theater in Millvale on their first date of the tour. Then you can catch them two more times on the tour, at The World in the Strip District on Oct. 16, and at Nick’s Fat City on the South Side on Nov. 20.

You may remember Fullproof from last year’s Fall Fest on Bigelow, but you should be catching them all over the Pittsburgh music scene. They are a four-piece rock band from Peters Township that has worked hard to be heard throughout the Pittsburgh area. You may have heard their single, “Anything and Everything,” on 105.9 The X’s “Edge of the X” radio show.

The band, consisting of lead vocalist Jeff Scheuring, Tyler S. Benson on bass, Grant Scheuring on guitar, and Donnie Morris on drums, is just a group of lifelong friends creating fresh alternative music. With great guitar riffs, catchy lyrics and a great pop sensibility, it is easy to see why Fullproof is such a local favorite. They have opened for bands such as Dishwalla, New Invisible Joy, and another local favorite, The Buzz Poets.

Their first full-length album, Far From Now, was released in 2002, and their new EP,Listen, is the epitome of modern rock. It fits in well among the Nicklebacks and Puddle of Mudds that flood the alternative scene — but unlike their rough vocals, lead singer Jeff Scheuring’s vocals are smooth and polished.

Causing such a stir among the local music scene can only lead to good things for Fullproof. With such a strong tour like the Zippo Hot Tour backing them, it can only go on to bigger and better things. So go out on Friday and catch not only Fullproof, but also the best of the best of what else is out there on the Pittsburgh music scene.
