According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Getsy will have to pay his own tuition because head coach Walt Harris refused to release him from his scholarship. Getsy said he plans to file an appeal.
“I didn’t expect him to accept it with open arms,” Getsy told the Tribune-Review, “but he didn’t give me anything. He called me selfish.”
Under NCAA rules, Getsy must sit out this season, but will be eligible to play next season with two years of eligibility remaining.
Getsy will join former Pitt offensive coordinator J.D. Brookhart, who is in his first year as head coach of the Zips.
