Friday, June 25 — Pitt’s board of trustees convenes for the annual summer meeting, approving the Student Government Board’s recommended increase in the student activities fee. Effective the fall term 2004, the fee will increase from $60 to $80 for full-time, non-College of General Studies students, and from $18 to $24 in each fall and spring term for part-time, non-College of General Studies students.

Saturday, July 10 — Pitt football players Lance Asbee, Christopher McKillop, Daniel Pickens and Clint Session turn themselves in after warrants are issued for each in connection with an April 16 fight at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house on Pitt’s Fraternity Hill.
Wednesday, July 14 — Pitt’s board of trustees announces tuition increases ranging from $516 for in-state, returning students to $1,574 for out-of-state, first-time students. The increases create a two-tiered system, charging higher annual rates for first-time students than for returning students.

Wednesday, August 4 — Part-time Pitt student Frank Ogiri-Little is shot and killed early in the morning in Squirrel Hill, at the intersection of South Negley Avenue and Fair Oaks Street. Four men, all of Garfield and ranging in age from 16 to 19, have been arrested in connection with the 27-year-old’s murder, according to an Aug. 12 report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
