Latino comedian gets ready to deliver a performance

Pablo Francisco knows a few things about comedy, even if he didn’t learn the art in English…. Pablo Francisco knows a few things about comedy, even if he didn’t learn the art in English. This Tucson-born comedian brings a fresh new take on the ever-growing influence of the Spanish language in the United States.

He knows that a lot of Americans are becoming annoyed with new bilingualism and he tackles it head on. He mocks such “annoyances” such as having to press a language button at the ATM machine, having to have a translation dictionary when visiting Los Angeles and the combination of frustration and shock tourists suffer when they visit the Southern border.

So where did this Latino comedian get his break?

He was 17 at the time and performed at several clubs with his high-school group, “Blow Out Boys.” The group was at a local steakhouse one night and took the floor. Pablo credits this experience for the transition between his comedic whim and his comedy career.

Since then he has gained fame with appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “MADtv,” and Showtime’s “Full Frontal Comedy.” He has also done voice-overs on “The Family Guy” and has appeared in the new film “My Baby’s Daddy” with Eddie Griffin. He has a new DVD out titled “Bits and Pieces” that will be in stores midsummer.

Francisco’s comedy is filled with witty satires and jabs at the Spanish language, with an entire bit focused on how the language can sound so harsh while actually saying a compliment. Of course, the comedian includes his notorious rendition of rapid-speaking Mexican women, which usually leaves the audience in tears. Pablo will be performing at the Waterfront Improv this weekend. For more information or for tickets, call (412) 462-5233, and be prepared for bilingual laughter.
