Well, the Kuntu Repertory Theatre is presenting “Deadwood Dick, Legend of the West,” starting this week. There’s plenty of rustlin’ and ropin’ to be had, as this Thursday marks the special preview night for the show.
“Deadwood Dick” is a satirical tale about the legendary cowboy Deadwood Dick and his cohorts. Through satire, comedy and music, you’ll see the story of the life of a black cowboy.
Warren Burdine is responsible for bringing this cowboy to stage and making Deadwood Dick come alive. The performance will show the trials and tribulations of Deadwood Dick and his cow-punchin’ pals. The program is set in the 1800s, which is when the legend known originally as Nat Love supposedly lived. Love was a former slave who made a name for himself with his awesome prowess on the range. It can be expected that the crew will portray him as distinctly as possible.
The shows will run on a schedule, starting this week, from Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m., and there will be a Sunday matinee showing at 4 p.m. On Thursday, June 3, the show will run at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
If you’re ready to experience a time when the West was fun — and the word “cowboy” meant something besides cheesy country music videos — look no farther than these next few weeks to yippee-ka-yay yourself into a seat at Alumni Hall for the show. This is a performance you do not want to miss.
