LadyFox Productions is celebrating its one-year anniversary with four up-and-coming pop/punk rock bands, Mae, Copeland, The Working Title and Slow Coming Day. And for many people, it will be quite an experience to be exposed to these four new pop rock bands.
LadyFox Productions has brought local and nationally recognized bands — like RX Bandits, Punchline, The Anniversary, Berlin Project and others — to venues such as Club Laga and Mr. Small’s Theater for the past year. With Pittsburgh’s ever-dwindling music scene — Club Laga’s imminent closing and Metropol’s closing this past spring — LadyFox Productions has brought a breath of life to the Pittsburgh scene.
The headlining band on this tour is Mae, a five-member band from Norfolk, Va. Mae has been making a splash by touring with the likes of Something Corporate, Coheed and Cambria, Piebald, The Starting Line, Brand New and Vendetta Red. Destination Beautiful, Mae’s debut album, was released last February, and they have been working on building a strong fan base ever since. Although they have a sound slightly similar to bands like Saves the Day, they do not limit themselves to one genre. They have a mixture of hard and soft sounds that are made to please a limitless audience.
Supporting Mae is Copeland, an indie-rock band from central Florida. Known for their emotional live performances, they create a mixture of the sounds of Jimmy Eat World andToad the Wet Sprocket. Copeland’s debut CD, Beneath Medicine Tree, came out in March 2003. Catch their single “Walking Downtown,” which premiered on Fuse on Jan. 19. Also, look for their EP of five cover songs, Know Nothing Stays The Same, hitting stores March 23.
Also on the bill is The Working Title, whose single “Beloved” just appeared on the soundtrack to “American Wedding” this past summer. You can look for their first full length CD, a mixture of lyrically driven, pop-rock rhythms, to be released next year on Universal Records. If you can’t wait that long, you can check out their EP, Everything Here is Wrong.
Lastly is indie-punk band Slow Coming Day, from Orange County. Their debut record, Farewell to the Familiar, hit stores last April. With a sound very similar to that of the Ataris — with the slightly raspy voice and catchy pop rock rhythms — they are sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
With such a diverse group of new bands that are sure to make an impact in the music business soon, LadyFox’s one-year anniversary celebration will surely be a concert you’ll talk about for a long time.
