Jump to the jams

Take Back the Night is an assemblage where people can speak out about rape, sexual assault and violence against women and children. Sponsored by the Campus Woman’s Organization, the event will have speakers, coffee and one of the best talents around the local music scene: Lexus Jumps.

Lexus Jumps is one of Pittsburgh’s best-kept secrets. The amazing blend of every genre you can think of, whether it’s hardcore, metal, emo, funk, hip-hop or rock, is featured in one package. They are well known for playing many University sponsored events, and are definitely a talent to behold.

Drummer Josh Cohen has an extremely unique style on the skins, showcasing his sheer speed and brilliance with every beat. Guitarists Chris Smith and Lewis Stanfield will amuse you with their bizarre smiles while slaying you with extremely technical riffs, and Chris Repko bombs out some funky grooves on bass. But the defining factor in this band is front-woman Deb Cohen. One minute, she’s screaming like Jacob Bannon of metal-core heroes Converge, then the next, she’s funktifying you with some Erykah Badu-esque soul.

Lexus Jumps’ discography began with their breakthrough full length, Meaningless, but they really outdid themselves last year by releasing i from bondage deliver i, a Shakespeare reference, which had beauty and tenacity all rolled into one.

This event takes place all through the night, and it should be no problem to stay up all night and support a good cause, while bobbing your head to some sweet tunes.

Take Back the Night, sponsored by the Campus Woman’s Organization, will begin at 8:30 p.m. tonight and continue until 6:30 a.m. Sat. morning on the William Pitt Union Patio. Lexus Jumps performs at 11 p.m.
