CMU student robbed at gunpoint from car

A silver Pontiac Sunbird slowed to a stop on Forbes Avenue in front of a Carnegie Mellon… A silver Pontiac Sunbird slowed to a stop on Forbes Avenue in front of a Carnegie Mellon University student at 2 a.m. on Monday. A man in the passenger seat drew a handgun, aimed it at the pedestrian and demanded money. The student complied and emptied his pockets.

The suspect then jumped from his vehicle approached the student and patted him down for any remaining funds. The suspect then raced off in his Pontiac.

According to a CMU police report, city police found the vehicle on the corner of Fifth and Craig avenues. City police chased the Pontiac through Oakland and Shadyside before arresting the driver behind Amberson Apartments on Bayard Street. Police recovered some of the stolen property but are still looking for the gun-wielding passenger.

CMU police chief Craig Doyle said that these types of robberies are uncommon. CMU police are working with city police to locate the suspect.

Police can only describe the robber as a black man with a white bandana. Anyone with information should contact the city police at 911, Pitt police at 811 or CMU’s police department at (412) 268-2323.
