Warhol for breakfast

Warhol as Post-Production Artist

Lecture by Tom Sokolowski

Today, noon to 1 p.m…. Warhol as Post-Production Artist

Lecture by Tom Sokolowski

Today, noon to 1 p.m.

William Pitt Union Assembly Room

Free

Get up, get up you lazy heads; get up, get up, get out of bed. March your friends and your appetite over to the William Pitt Union Assembly Room for a lunch and lecture – not the kind you get from your parents or from your calc professor – by Andy Warhol Museum’s director, Tom Sokolowski.

Pop artist Andy Warhol hailed from Pittsburgh, and he has a museum dedicated to his avant-garde art. This man could take a Campbell’s tomato soup can label and make it interesting via his trademark silk-screening. While the same picture was transposed on paper or another medium over and over, the image was never the same twice. Warhol is also famous for his silk-screened self-portraits and those of fames such as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis.

Thanks to Pitt Arts, the enlightenment is free, as are the food and admission to the museum whenever you choose to go. Who wants to sit at Eddie’s eating soggy nachos when you can save those blocks and dining dollars while getting a lesson in Pittsburgh culture from a man who knows what he’s talking about?

You will catch a glimpse of some of Warhol’s most renowned works, and get an idea about how his creativity affected all aspects of the arts and entertainment world from modern art to advertising. You will find out how his influence impacted the world in his prime during the ’60s and how it still does today.

So drag yourself out of bed, brush your hair and teeth, and for crying out loud, leave the teddy bear at home.
