David Gray has been releasing albums for more than a decade though ironically received a Grammy nomination for “Best New Artist” in 2000 after his release of White Ladder.
A fairly unknown artist, Gray has yet to receive the acclaim he deserves, even though White Ladder went double platinum and is the best selling album of all time in Ireland.
Gray has released his follow-up to White Ladder, a beautiful 12-track album titled a new day at midnight. With the same ingredients used in his first well-known album, a new day follows the formula for a great album.
From the opening track, “Dead in the water,” Gray grabs his listeners with a poppy guitar riff and his typical catchy chorus. The second track, “Caroline,” is a sweet love song with meaningful lyrics flowing through the entire track. “Long distance call” is another love song with lyrics such as, “the fear now taking hold/I’ll bring you love but it’s/all been sold.”
Not many people know that Gray has been performing for as long as he has, because he didn’t get major recognition until he was picked up on Dave Matthews’ label, ATO.
With his new release, Gray will bring in those people still unfamiliar with his music, and will keep his faithful and adoring fans happy, as a new day at midnight flows from track to track with smooth and sweet love songs, David Gray style.
