Students must support football team

Pitt students, it is time for you to stand up and… Students must support football team

Pitt students, it is time for you to stand up and support your football team!

If you don’t pack your sections at Heinz Field this Saturday for the Temple game, shame on you. Coming off that stirring 28-21 win at Virginia Tech, the Panthers deserve nothing less than a raucous home crowd to greet them. To those of you who will say, “Well, it’s only Temple,” keep in mind that the Owls have been a thorn for too many Pitt teams over the years. Besides, the Panthers are YOUR team – you should come out to the games regardless of the opposition. The best college football programs enjoy that kind of backing from their student body. The team feeds off the energy created by the fans, especially the students.

Pitt football is on the threshold of returning to national prominence. I’ve been attending games since the ’70s and been a season ticket holder since 1982. This year’s team reminds me of the squads we had in the Majors-Sherrill era. Pitt was a match for anybody. The student section really rocked then. It will again, but you need to make it happen!
