Television’s “Pop Stars” brought us Eden’s Crush, “American Idol” introduced America to Kelly Clarkson and MTV’s “Making the Band” put together O-Town.
Just when we’re all getting sick of television making and discovering musicians rather than letting them do it on their own, we remember VH1’s “Bands on the Run” discovery, Flickerstick, a television discovery who has yet to flicker out.
The guys, who stayed at the Greentree Radisson Hotel when they visited Pittsburgh during the filming of the television show in late 2000, are back to take on the Hard Rock Cafe in Station Square. Their debut album, Welcoming Home the Astronauts, of course received pretty good airplay on VH1, but the band also got its name out by relentlessly touring and touring.
In July, lead singer Brandin Lea and crew packed their hometown club Deep Ellum Live in Texas, where they recorded Causing a Catastrophe-Live, the reason for their latest tour, also named “Causing a Catastrophe.” Familiar tunes such as the ever popular “Beautiful,” as well as “Coke” and “Smile,” were all part of Flickerstick’s set list that summer night. The band also included a cover of Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You.”
With all of the practice these guys have gotten on the road, Hard Rock is sure to be packed for an awesome concert.
Opening up for Flickerstick is The Shazman and local up-and-coming Shadow Jones, who are no strangers to the stage at the Hard Rock Cafe.
As per the norm for Hard Rock, this is an 18 and over show that won’t set you back much when it comes to cash. How beautiful is that?
