Lottery system disappointing

I’m honestly disappointed with the University, with Steve Pederson and with the athletics administration as a whole right now. They claim to have made an attempt to give all students a chance at season basketball tickets, but what really happened was they screwed the real fans out of the seats by running this lottery. The fans who stuck with the team for the past couple years, who were there for the NCAA Tournament opening rounds in Pittsburgh, and who traveled to Lexington, Ky., to root their team on, are the true fans. Most of those fans didn’t get tickets, and most of them probably won’t. Our school is going to be represented by a bunch of bandwagon fans because of a top five ranking and the new Petersen Events Center.

If you want to see true fans, you should have seen outside the William Pitt Union the day before the remaining student season passes went on sale. A line began to form at 1 p.m. for the tickets that weren’t going on sale for another 20 hours. This act demonstrates these fans have true dedication for the Pitt blue and gold. If you want the true fans at basketball games, let them stay through the wee hours of the morning to show their true dedication, don’t just allow the lucky students to receive the tickets. I myself was fortunate to receive one of the 1000 winning wristbands for the lottery, but honestly, I’d rather be out there showing my true pride for the University of Pittsburgh by camping out in the freezing cold and rain with the other true fans.
