Hard rock is exerting its influence in Pittsburgh this weekend; a number of heavy shows are rolling through the city. Taproot, known for its hard riffs and meaningful lyrics, joins the number of rock shows tomorrow night by headlining an all ages show at Nick’s Fat City.

Formed in 1997, Taproot has carved a name for itself by taking a different approach to making music with a unique sound, thus giving the band a rather large fan base.

The band’s 2000 debut Gift placed the band in the national music scene and landed them a spot on the road with Ozzfest 2000 and 2001, as well as spots touring with Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Incubus and the Deftones.

The new release, Welcome, available in stores now, features an emotional list of songs, including Taproot’s new hit single “Poem,” a dark and heavy song about inner emotions – which is getting sufficient airtime on MTV.

Pulse Ultra, the nu-metal band from Canada, will join Taproot at the show. Pulse Ultra released its debut album earlier this year and had the opportunity to play the second stage of Ozzfest as well as some off dates with System of a Down, P.O.D. and Meshuggah.

Playing the middle slot of the show with power and meaning is Project 86, on the road promoting its third release, Truthless Heroes, on Atlantic Records. The album stands as a statement against societal norms and the waste they may create.

With a set from each band that will bombard the senses with meaningful and emotional lyrics and a hard-rocking sound pumping from the speakers, this show will definitely be worth seeing.
