The event was planned and sponsored equally by Black Action Society and Asian Students Alliance.
BAS Vice President Cynthia Gordy was quoted in the article as saying “By voting we are paying homage to our ancestors.” In an interview Tuesday, Gordy said, “I did not mean that voting is our way of paying homage to our ancestral past. I, personally, consider the historical significance of my right to vote because it is something that African-Americans have had to fight for, some as recently as the 1960s. I think it’s important that we exercise this right today.”
Also, the article incorrectly stated the deadline for voter registration forms was Oct. 10 – it was actually Oct. 7.
