After a busy weekend and the hectic start to a week, it’s always good to relax and check out a concert. And it’s just everyone’s luck that there happens to be a worthwhile concert taking place Monday night. Singer/songwriter Garrison Starr makes her way to Pittsburgh and will be playing in the extremely intimate setting of Club Cafe.
With her new album, Songs From Take-Off To Landing, released earlier this year, Starr is tackling the music world head on and not looking back. With songs that allow her to put her beautiful voice in the spotlight and let her play her rock driven guitar riffs mixed with a country flavor, giving what could very well be one of the best sounds of the year.
Songs From Take-Off To Landing is filled with songs that are suitable for most anyone to relate to, whether young or old, male or female. The album includes songs such as “Somethin’s Gotta Change,” a song about a lifestyle makeover, and “Big Sky,” which shows off Starr’s beautiful voice.
“Serves Me Right” is about realizing there is more than what has been going on, “It serves me right, yeah I guess/ for finally volunteering for a good kick in my chest/ It serves me right, yeah I guess/ for pretending not to notice I was settling for less.”
Starr received support on the album from Steve Earle and Mary Chapin Carpenter, who provides vocals on two tracks.
With a beautiful sound mixed with impressive guitar licks, and her “heart on her sleeve” lyrics, this evening with Garrison Starr is just too sweet to pass up.
