If you’ve heard of “Jackass,” it’s likely you’ve also heard of its predecessor, “Camp Kill Yourself.” The infamous tapes, which were acclaimed as perhaps the most popular skating videos of the last few years yield a band of the same name, CKY. CKY are a band from West Chester, Pa., who stand poised to deliver a version of surgically precise rock with smidgens of punk sensibilities.

Why is this important? Because CKY brings a fresh face to the current stream of rock bands that are taking over radio and television waves across the nation. Upon the release of their forthcoming album, Destroy.Improve.Rebuild., CKY unleashes some of their most accessible material to date. During the last few years, they’ve toured with the likes of Boy Sets Fire, Snapcase and Death by Stereo, and have been included in Hellfest, held in Syracuse, N.Y., and Vans Warped Tour.

Also enlisted for this show are punk rock touring mates All American Rejects and Leisure. While they stand to create an atmosphere that differs a bit compared to CKY, the diversity in their sound will also encourage fans to be turned onto something new, hence bills that feature several genres are more encouraged now than ever before.

While the skate video’s popularity increases, so does the band’s. CKY’s tapes have been more of a showcase of comedy as well as skateboarding, supplemented with a soundtrack of some amazing independent artists that most people haven’t heard, including themselves.

What’s amazing is that the band is crucially involved in the making of the videos and even put their own lives at risk to complete the stunts in videos, and this translates to the live show. The members will often do outrageous acts to show how much they love playing their music and rocking out. These activities range from axe chops to jumping off random barriers and amps to Chad Ginsburg’s own perfected guitar swing – in which he rotates his guitar 360 degrees over his head via his strap, a real marvel to witness as he executes this flawlessly time after time.

Take heed, fans who are weak of heart – CKY will thrill you to the point of cardiac arrest or die trying.
