Rap/rock performers have been in the mainstream music scene for a long time. And it started before Kid Rock was singing about trailer parks, before P.O.D. was featured on the Little Nicky Soundtrack and before Limp Bizkit sang a single note about “Nookie.” Yes, kids, I do have to break it to you, it started before MTV made it popular and was helped along the way by a little band by the name of Cypress Hill.

With nine albums under their belt since 1991, their most recent being Stoned Raiders, released in December 2001, they have a brand new flava for your ear: a few remixes on their new CD Stash.

Stash features old and new hits from their never-ending catalog of work. The first song on the CD is a song called “Amplified,” from Stoned Raiders. After that, they mix up “Illusions” and “Throw Your Set in the Air,” both from the 1995 release, Cypress Hill III, Temples of Boom.

Also on the mixed release are “Checkmate” from IV (1998), “Latin Lingo” from their self-titled debut album released in 1991, and “(Rap) Superstar,” the split personality song from the 2000 Skull and Bones album.

Songs from Stash were produced by DJ Muggs for Soul Assassins, who also produced the majority of tracks from every other Cypress Hill album. “Fredwreck” Nassar for Dogghouse Productions helps out on “Amplified.” “(Rap) Superstar” was produced and mixed by the Alchemist, while “Checkmate” was remixed by Tony Morello.

With hits ranging from “Insane in the Brain” to “Superstar” and with the here-to-stay attitude that being in the game since 1991 gives a successful group, keep looking for more hard hits from Cypress Hill for years to come.
