The punk rock scene continues to roll through Pittsburgh as the skater punk style of the California rockers Mest take over Club Laga tonight.

The release of Mest’s second album, Destination Unknown, is the reason the band has taken to the road. When the group takes the stage, expect a fun-loving attitude and rambunctious style that has attracted a large following of fans who love the band’s catchy melodies about breaking up and making up.

The evening promises a variety of emotions because the feel of each song is different. With songs like “Cadillac” and “Opinions,” lead singer Tony Lavato puts his need for melodies to use by singing the catchy laid-back lyrics and displays the band’s desire to just simply relax. As the chorus of “Cadillac” states, “With my top down/ seat back/ rolling in my Cadillac.” And with songs like “Reason” and “Without You,” Lavato wears his heart on his sleeve when he sings about his favorite topic: women.

The supporting band for the evening is the punk rock trio from sunny California, Homegrown, taking to the road promoting their early summer release, Kings of Pop. Also involved in the festivities for the evening is Catch 22. The seven-member ensemble will squeeze onto the stage of Laga to perform a raucous mix of punk and ska with a hardcore feel.

Opening the night and rounding out the bill is the punk quartet Madcap, on the road promoting their new album, East to West, in stores today.

There’s nothing better than having a good time, and the members of Mest, as well as the other bands on the bill, know exactly what you need to have it. Take a break from studying and stressing out over class and feed your need for fun with a little punk rock.
