• Uthan Pillai, of 316 Meyran Ave., and Umar Rashid, of 316 Meyran Ave., were arrested for theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy and criminal use of a communication facility at 3:35 p.m.
• At 5:03 p.m. in Bellefield Hall, an officer found the elevator shaft on the third floor open with only a plywood board across it. An engineer was notified to secure the shaft and the officer posted caution tape until the engineer arrived.
Wednesday, Sept. 4
• Officers responded to a report at the Space Research Center of water leaking from the ceiling at 10:37 a.m. Engineers discovered that the leak was caused by water accumulation.
Thursday, Sept. 5
• An officer checked in on a large party at Phi Kappa Theta at 12:01 a.m. The officer found that someone had taped plastic cups over the smoke detectors and that there was a large number of people drinking on the second and third floors. Then the officer cleared out the party and made sure the cups were removed. Judicial Board papers were filed.
• Mauri Cesare, 18, of 1004 South Holland Hall, and Christopher Gilmore, 18, of 805 McCormick Hall, were cited for underage drinking in Holland Hall at 3:17 a.m.
• Near the Sennott Square building at 3:37 a.m., a guard reported a suspicious person around the bicycle rack. When the officer asked for identification, the person showed him an expired Pitt student I.D. The officer confiscated the I.D. and advised the person to stay off University property.
• At 3:25 p.m. an officer reported that when he tried to stop a man for a traffic violation, the man struck a stopped school bus and fled the area on foot. Officers checked the area for the man, but they did not find anyone. The man’s vehicle was towed to Stuckert’s Towing.
• There was a large group of people in Litchfield Towers lobby who were watching pledges do a routine at 8:32 p.m. The group did not have University permission and were asked to leave the area. They did so without incident.
• Pitt police assisted city police with a neighbor dispute on South Millvale Avenue at 9:18 p.m. The incident involved Pitt students playing their music too loudly.
Friday, Sept. 6
• Nonstudent Mark A. Klepeis, of Carnegie, Pa., was cited for disorderly conduct at Sennott Square at 1:21 a.m.
• In Sutherland Hall at 3:56 a.m., a woman reported that two men entered her room and took miscellaneous items. The items were recovered and returned, and the woman did not want to press charges. Adam H. Herman, 19, of 503 East Sutherland Hall; Christopher Maharg, 19, of 501 Sutherland Hall; and a juvenile were cited for underage drinking.
