For freshmen who haven’t yet ventured from the cocoon of their dorm rooms except for class, WPTS-FM is planning something special.

In the first of their Get the Hell Out of Your Dorm Room concerts, the radio station will present the groovy New York dudes of the French Kicks. With a sound that’s part trashy New York, part modern Brit-pop – an edgier version of the Strokes – the French Kicks are a band worth leaving your dorm room to see. Heck, they’re a band worth leaving work and class for, too.

The French Kicks will also be joined by the eclectic group LandSpeedRecord!, who have invited comparisons to everything from Devo and the Talking Heads to the Barenaked Ladies and the Dismemberment Plan. They seem to defy pigeonholing. The Oranges Band will round out the show.

In case good music isn’t enough to lure people to the William Pitt Union patio, WPTS-FM is also promising free food from Jimmy John’s. The show is free, but donations will be accepted for the Sept. 11 Peace Garden Memorial.
