Pitt maps universe and galaxies

Pitt has joined the research project of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey in scanning and mapping… Pitt has joined the research project of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey in scanning and mapping out one-quarter of the sky.

By precisely mapping out one-quarter of the universe, the survey will produce a detailed image of that section, determining the positions and brightness of more than 100 million celestial objects. The project will also measure the distance to a million of the nearest galaxies.
