Evening fire forces Clapp Hall evacuation

A small fire in Clapp Hall forced students and staff to evacuate the building last night…. A small fire in Clapp Hall forced students and staff to evacuate the building last night. According to a police lieutenant at the scene, the source of the fire was a small cart in the lobby.

Pitt police and local firemen responded to the alarm, which sounded at 6:20 p.m.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, officials moved the cart to the grassy area in front of the building, where officers saw that it was filled with an unknown material, charred black.

University spokesman Robert Hill said,
