Pitt hosted No.1-ranked Miami on ESPN Thursday after a 19-day hiatus. Virginia Tech came back from an early deficit to eventually win the game. Syracuse, who desperately needed a win, found themselves behind after squandering a 20-3 lead, but came back for the win. Rutgers, like Syracuse, participated in another back-and-forth game and lost in the end. West Virginia lost to Maryland and Temple was off.

Miami 43, Pitt 21

The key match up in the Big East took place on Thursday night at Heinz Field. Miami (3-0 overall, 2-0 Big East) defeated Pitt (1-2 overall, 0-1 Big East) 43-21.

At one point Pitt led 7-6 after being down 6-0 on a seven-play 62-yard drive in which running back Clinton Portis scored. Pitt
