Michael F. Jimenez, 53, a professor in the history department, died this weekend after an… Michael F. Jimenez, 53, a professor in the history department, died this weekend after an almost-yearlong bout with kidney cancer.

Jimenez, a graduate of Trinity College in Connecticut, Stanford University and Harvard University, where he earned his Ph.D., taught at Pitt since the early 1990s.

Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the John A. Freyvogel and Sons Inc. Funeral Home at 4900 Centre Ave. in North Oakland. Mass will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at St. Bede Church in Point Breeze.

The family requests that donations in his memory be made to the University of Pittsburgh Michael Jimenez memorial traveling fellowship or to the St. Bede School creative and performing arts program.
